How should you prepare your Apple device before a repair?
Simple steps to protect your information and support a responsible diagnosis.
Protect your information
Create a current backup whenever possible. Repair may require testing, system restoration, or storage replacement, so a backup is your best protection.
Describe the problem clearly
Note what happened, when it began, whether it is intermittent, and what you have already tried. Mention liquid, impact, or electrical events from the start.
Bring only what is needed
Remove cases, cards, adapters, and unrelated accessories. If the issue concerns charging, bring the charger or cable you normally use.
Passwords and privacy
Never send passwords in messages. If testing requires access, enter the password yourself or agree on a secure process. Apple also recommends turning off Find My when appropriate before service.
